Project - Expanding a Digital Insurer into Germany

Overview

InShared is a fully digital insurance provider. As a developer on the Insurance Team, I was involved in three key initiatives: rolling out a renewed in-house framework, building partner integrations, and expanding InShared to the German market.

The German insurance market is significantly less centralized than in the Netherlands. To underwrite a car insurance policy in Germany, different processes and datasets are required — from vehicle specifications to regional risk factors.

Key Contributions

German Market Data Integrations

To ensure access to the right data for German policies, I designed and implemented integrations with several external data providers. A central project was the design and implementation of multiple SOAP services for retrieving detailed vehicle data — make, model, engine specifications, and insurance classification.

• Designed the service architecture for reliable communication with third-party SOAP APIs.
• Implemented robust error handling and data validation for the German vehicle data pipeline.
• Ensured compliance with German data provider requirements and response formats.

Interactive Vehicle Selector (POC)

I built a proof-of-concept for an interactive, drill-down vehicle selector on the frontend. This allowed prospective customers to progressively narrow down their exact vehicle through an intuitive step-by-step flow — critical for the German market where vehicle identification is more granular.

In-House Framework Rollout

Contributed to the migration of existing insurance logic onto a renewed in-house framework, improving maintainability and enabling faster feature development across both the Dutch and German platforms.
